Today I was told I’m going to hell and in the process I’m sure I’ve somehow attracted a creepy guy who is not going to go away anytime soon.
As I’ve mentioned I work in a big box store. An older gentlemen came in and needed help with a product. I escorted him to the area and began to help him with what he needed. At first he was quite persistent that I had to come home with him to help him set it up. It didn’t feel like he was joking, he was giving a very creepy vibe. He kept mentioning that he was writing a book. Being polite I smiled and nodded because customer service is what I’m trained in.
I had an excuse to go to the back where he wasn’t permitted to follow me and take a breather and attempt to get uncreeped out. I put my smile back on and went to finish the sale and get this guy out of the store.
He then proceeded to tell me that he was going to put me on his prayer list because I had been so helpful. Again nodding and smiling being polite trying to just finish with this customer I was posed with the question if I went to church on Sunday.
I’m thinking now I should have said yes however I told the truth and said no.
Well here came the drama, I am going to hell and this is a place that this gentlemen wouldn’t want his worst enemy to go to. This is behaviour that must change immediately and he is going to come back with the portion of his book about hell.
He then wanted my full name, address and home phone number so he can help me from going to hell. I told him that I don’t provide that information to customers and then lied and scurried off saying I was needed.
I’ve dealt with people like this before. He has found someone who needs saving. He’s going to come back again and again. I’m very uncomfortable with this however maybe he’ll lose interest in me and find someone else more worthy of saving.
I’m hoping he doesn’t come tomorrow because heaven forbid I’m working instead of going to church. I also take comfort knowing that I can ask him be removed from the store.
In the mean time I should come to terms with going to hell. All those who are joining me raise your hands.
I sit here and wonder how the heck do all the crazies find me? I’m thinking I should throw my customer service skills out the window and just become a total . . . you know what.
